Welcome back!

It certainly is a different start of the school year at Mount Saint Vincent University, to say the least! For many of us, the final year(s) of our undergraduate degrees have been impacted by a global pandemic. For others, that same pandemic has hindered the much-anticipated beginning of our post-secondary adventure. Regardless of academic or professional standing, we are all facing similar questions and setbacks during this unprecedented time.

At the beginning of 2020, I could have never imagined writing a welcome back message that acknowledged a pandemic. Likewise, I could have never imagined that the first term of my fourth year would be entirely online, that masks would be the new normal, and that the terms “social distancing” and “quarantine” would become a part of my everyday vocabulary.  But here we are! From a public relations perspective, the communications surrounding COVID-19 has been fascinating to watch. Every organization has had to pivot their operations and re-think their priorities, which has come with new initiatives, policies, and, of course, messaging. The Symmetry team is looking forward to covering all of the latest communications trends and challenges in this new and changing environment—and providing you with some light reading along the way.

This year, we are pleased to welcome six new faces to the Symmetry team: Alyson Greeno, Elizabeth Young, Jane Landry, Maria Baini, Megan Savary, and Sophie Blondin. Joining us again for their second year on the team are Hannah Baillie, Madison Mills, and Olivia Hernden. As editor-in-chief, I am eager to work along such a talented and passionate group of women and future professionals. Check out our meet the team page to become better acquainted with this year’s Symmetry team. Also new this year is an email change! We can now be contacted at symmetry@msvu.ca.

Symmetry is always looking for MSVU students, faculty, and professionals in the PR community to contribute articles, regardless of degree or experience. When you write for Symmetry, you are improving and showcasing your writing abilities, publishing your work on a credible platform, building your portfolio, and collaborating with fellow students and future professionals. If you need inspiration or are struggling with an article idea, visit our topic ideas page or send us an email and we’d be happy to help brainstorm.

How can you get involved?

Here’s to an exciting year of creating, communicating, and collaborating!
