Shop local this holiday season

As this unexpected year of 2020 is coming to a wrap and the biggest shopping time of the year is starting up, why not take some time to support some local small businesses? We’ve complied a list of five small businesses in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) to help you discover new businesses or be reminded of an old favourite.

1. Cheycuterie

Serving up four different types of boards, Cheyanne, owner of Cheycuterie, is killing the game! She’s sure to have something to catch your eye; there are boards ranging in sizes from larger groups of eight to 10 people and even has individual sized boards to bring to your virtual holiday party this year. Be sure to check out her hot cocoa board – the perfect treat for a cozy night in.

2. House of Moda

House of Moda is the spot for some of the hottest fashion and accessories items in the city. They specialize in jewellery, but have recently added some clothing items. House of Moda recently opened a stunning new location on Spring Garden Road but due to recent restrictions they are also doing door-to-door deliveries to keep clients and staff safe from COVID-19. For visitors who like to browse offline, they have reserved appointment times so that you can shop safely and quietly – be sure to book in advance online!

3. R Studios

For the fitness lover in your life. R Studios has three locations across the HRM: Rio, Rogue and Rebel. Between the three locations, they offer a variety of classes from kickboxing to yoga and so much more. To help protect against the virus, R Studio has on-demand and livestream classes every day to help keep you moving at home. They even offer a free class for first time visitors!

4. Florence Collection

If up-cycling vintage furniture is what you’re into, this is your one-stop shop. Florence Collection offers an array of vintage furniture that is bound to catch your eye. If you are looking for for a unique piece for your home, Florence Collection is bound to have the one-of-a-kind piece for you. Currently their operating hours are Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. If these hours don’t work for you, you can also send them a message and book an appointment! They are sure to have an awesome vintage piece waiting for you to take them home!

5. Woozles Bookstore

Searching for the perfect gift for the little one in your life? Woozles Bookstore is a small children’s bookstore located just off of Spring Garden Road. They offer an array of children’s books, as well as science kits, puzzles, art supplies, and loads of other toys. A must stop to get a gift to bring a smile to their face! They are also offering curbside pick-up and have limited their store to five customers at a time to help protect against the ongoing pandemic.

Supporting our small businesses is especially important this year during a pandemic. Many businesses have been struggling and need our support to get back to where they were. Shop local this winter and support our entrepreneurs right here in the HRM.
